Book Review: Undeniable
by Cherie M. Hudson
Undeniable by Cherie M. Hudson is a lite new adult contemporary romance. It is heartwarming, mixed with funny scenes and horny bits. I received an ARC from Netgalley.
Premature birth and an ear infection caused Chase to have a hearing deficiency. She is deaf in one ear and partially deaf in the other. She grew up overly protected by her father, and bullied by other kids, but these never stopped Chase from being independent, the fighter that she is. Although, these events made her snarky, sarcastic, and have an issue with people who want to protect her just because of her defect.
“I wish I could truly hear the way normal people do.
Surely it has nothing to do with the fact I wonder what
his heart would sound like beating in his if I lay
my head on it. I can’t work it out and I don’t like it.”
― Undeniable, Cherrie M. Hudson
She was determined to forget a solid heartache caused by her college professor, who made her believe that she is a normal and special girl, only to find out that she was used as a bed warmer, just one of his conquers. Now she is waiting for the Australian Hunk named Caden, her brother-in-law’s cousin to arrive at the airport. A guy who is overly in love with her and Chase can’t deny their connection.
Caden is head over heels with Chase. The moment he saw her, he knew that he has to make that girl his. Desperate to show his honest intention, even with Chase always shaking him off and absolutely making a clear “YOU-ARE-NOT-MY-TYPE” impression. Caden is now out to get Chase and make her realize that she is also in love with him.
I was at first interested in the story, Chase is a very interesting character. She truly is strong, she expresses herself artistically through her body, I visualized her as a punk chick ready to kick ass anytime. But for deaf who seem to be anti-social, and according to her she hates to be around people aside from her really close friends, she talks a lot in her head. At first, I find her amusing, admire her on how she sees things as if she had loads to say about everything, that is not in any way would help the story, I found myself a bit annoyed by it.
Most of the time hates her defect and seems to blame it for all the negativities in her life, her personality evolves around those situations. Perhaps it’s the reason why she falls for the wrong person. I can’t seem to understand why she hates people who (perhaps…) genuinely expressing compassion towards her. Maybe she doesn’t like it or is fed up with it, but I think she can consider thinking that these people don’t usually interact with a person with a defect and would normally act carefully around them. But hell yeah, she can bitch out with the insensitive ones!
Caden, on the other hand, is nothing but a lovesick dog. Although I admire him being the gentleman that he is and his attachment to animals. He is sensitive enough to always put Chase’s feelings in everything he does and I give him an A+ plus for not going down easily when Chase wanted to go to the motel and get working.
Undeniable is an O.K. read for me. The author had created a world where we could look inside a person with a hearing deficiency. Made me realize that we should be careful about how we act around them. Sure, we tend to care but being careful sometimes made them even feel worst. Cherie M. Hudson gives you the feel not just read, of what the character is going through, I specifically enjoy reading what’s on Caden’s head. Undeniable is your light comedy romance for you.
