Book Review: Dark Touch
by Aimee L. Salter
I must say Dark Touch by Aimee L. Salter is indeed very dark, emotional and full of secrets that it kept me reading until the end. I kept predicting what happened to the character but always ended up wrong.
Tully has a secret that kept her from touching other people, because the moment they touch her hand, they feel what she is feeling. Feelings that she kept well hidden because of her darkest past and all she ever wanted in her life was to graduate and move out of the hellish town she is living in.
Chris is a complete opposite of her, he has a perfect family, perfect school records and popular. The first time he saw her, he knows instantly that he likes Tully.
But when Chris touches her, Tully didn’t expect Chris’s reaction to her powers.
“It breaks through the walls around my heart and finally, he’s there, washing me in the same emotions. Faltering hope. Desire. So much love…”
― Dark Touch by Aimee L. Salter
This book has got me wondering what Tully and her father’s secret is. It started out with a visit from her Grandma and was thinking why she and her father is acting weird about it. This book kept me going because of wanting to know more of Tully’s secret and believe me it struck me hard when I finally discover it.
The story revolves around a teenager who wanted to escape from her abusive alcoholic father and was involved with the wrong kind of friends. I understand why she is acting the way she does, Tully is a troubled kid… a totally damaged one inside and out.
“It doesn’t matter that we are oil and water, When he smiles, when he touches me, I feel something I haven’t felt in a long time. Something dangerously close to hope.”
-Dark Touch by Aimee L. Salters
I admire Chris’s personality and wonder if someone like him really exists in this world. He shows imperfection quite a little but as a hopeless romantic, I’d let this book get away with his paragon.
The storytelling is very good, the plot is truly devastating… in a good way. I liked how it ends with a very hopeful tone despite all the negativities that happened to Tully.
*I received an ARC copy from Netgalley.
